Alumnae Development
The NEW Leadership Nevada program does not end with the six-day summer institute. To that end, we continue to facilitate opportunities for students to develop and hone their leadership skills.
NEW Leadership Nevada Alumnae Internships at Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc.
Harrah’s has a longstanding commitment to NEW Leadership Nevada. Since the program’s initiation in 2003, Harrah’s has progressively increased its commitment to furthering young women’s leadership capabilities. Beginning in September 2007, we launched a paid internship position at Harrah’s for a NEW Leadership Alumna. This experience provides hands-on education about the business world, particularly the intersections between business and politics. The student intern works for 12 weeks in Harrah’s Government Relations Department housed at Caesars Palace.
The 2007 internship was such a success that Harrah’s expanded this opportunity to three paid internships in 2008. NEW Leadership alumnae filled internship positions in the Government Relations, National Diversity, and Communications departments.
NEW Leadership Nevada Alumnae professional development.
WRIN hosts a number of events for alumnae and prospective students to continue cultivating leadership skills and experience additional development opportunities. Throughout the year, we introduce alumnae to a wide range of community leaders through hosting workshops, lunches, and dinners. Past topics include: “How to Apply to Graduate School” led by UNLV Women’s Studies professor Dr. Anita Tijerina Revilla; Ethical Leadership, Money Management; Writing for Change; and “Fundraising 101” led by Amy Ayoub from Amy Ayoub & Associates.
Evaluation and Impact.
We have an ongoing commitment to our alumnae and because we want to see how NEW Leadership Nevada impacts alumnae as they continue in their development, we created a survey and are tracking the results. For more information and updates on our research efforts, please see the Research Impact section of the NEW Leadership Nevada page.
We encourage all NEW Leadership Nevada alumnae to stay in touch and keep us posted- we love to hear what you are up to! Please use the form on this page to update your contact and personal information. And always feel free to call or e-mail us with your news. In the future, we hope to make this page an interactive place for alumnae to gather and discuss issues. Stay tuned!

Programs
Below you will find the agendas for all NEW Leadership Nevada programs,
dating back to 2003, our first year. When we presented our first
program, we stayed true to the original Center for American Women
and Politics (CAWP) program design and focused primarily on providing
training that would enable more women, particularly younger women,
to become involved in political leadership roles. While we have retained
the notion that politics affects our daily lives, whether or not
we serve in an official, elected capacity; we expanded the program
to include leadership in other fields, for those students who may
not be considering a run for office in the near future. Thus, subsequent
programs have included a variety of women leaders from business,
law, community activism, education, gaming, banking, and more.
